Stillness in Motion: Purposefully Co-Creating the Future of Health Information Sciences Amid Uncertain Times

Philip Walker is the Director of the Annette and Irwin Eskind Family Biomedical Library and Learning Center at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN.  Mr. Walker earned a master’s in library and information science from Louisiana State University (2005), a master’s in health informatics from the University of Missouri (2014), and is currently enrolled in the Doctorate in Health Informatics Program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Philip is an adjunct faculty member of the Vanderbilt School of Nursing with research interests pertaining to the information needs and information seeking behavior of the health sciences community, biomedical and health informatics, knowledge translation, evidence-based practice, and information ecology. Philip has authored or co-authored several papers, conference presentations, and a book chapter. He is a member of the American Medical Informatics Association and the American Nursing Informatics Association. Philip is the recipient of the 2019 Friend of Nursing Award from the Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the 2022 Vanderbilt University School of Nursing Dean’s Award for Outstanding Support to Faculty and Students. Philip is currently serving on the NLM Board of Regents (2022-2026).

Planetary Health: An Essential Role of Health Sciences Librarians

Planetary Health is a solutions-oriented, transdisciplinary field and movement that addresses human caused disruptions to Earth’s natural systems upon which all life depends. Restoration of planetary health requires each field to bring their unique knowledge and skills to work with others to co-create a better future that works for everyone.

Dr. Teddie Potter is the inaugural Director of the Center for Planetary Health and Environmental Justice at the School of Nursing at the University of Minnesota and a Fellow in the Institute on the Environment at the University. She is a board member of the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments and a member of the American Academy of Nursing Environment and Public Health Expert Panel. She is a member of the Coordinating Committee of Columbia University’s Global Consortium on Climate and Health Education, and the Steering Committee of the Planetary Health Alliance (PHA). She serves on the National Academy of Medicine’s Action Collaborative on Decarbonizing the US Health Sector; the Health and Medicine Division of the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM); and the Climate Crossroads committee of NASEM. Her most recent work is founding with the International Council of Nurses, Nursing for Planetary Health, a global nursing movement.
